Introducing the Wistia Creative Alliance—A Collaboration in Support of Creativity

Today we’re really excited to announce a new program called the Wistia Creative Alliance. As part of this initiative, we’ve partnered with over 30 freelance creatives in an effort to bring our audience moments of joy during these tough times.

Freelancers across a number of industries have had their upcoming projects canceled due to the safety measures in place for COVID-19. Here at Wistia, we think there’s an opportunity for us to play a small part in bridging the gap between the need for art and the need to support the creatives who make it.

As a business, we’re extremely grateful that we’re open and operating right now from the safety of our homes. And while we’re continuing to focus on providing our audience and customers with the Wistia products and support they’re accustomed to, we’ve also been working hard to find new ways to help our colleagues and our community.

Just a few weeks ago, we made Wistia and Soapbox available for free to organizations that are in the education, healthcare, or non-profit sector and are using video to support current community needs. Our Content and Creative team have refocused their time and energy towards creating content that teaches folks how to make videos from home. They’ve also put a call out for suggestions from our community so that we can truly provide value with what we create. But this project, the Wistia Creative Alliance, is one that I’m particularly excited about.

Some of our most successful creative endeavors would not have been possible without collaborating with folks who work full-time in the creative gig economy. Graphic designers, sound engineers, musicians, producers, editors, lighting directors … the list goes on. With the Wistia Creative Alliance, we’re not only providing a paying gig for folks in this community, but it’s also a gig that gives them the opportunity to do what they do best — be creative.

Whether it’s a voice-over actor showing us how she creates different characters, or a puppeteer putting on a stellar performance for the kids, there’s going to be something for everyone. We’ll be releasing more content over the coming weeks, but to kick things off, we’re sharing two new Channels with you today.

With Director’s Cut, you’ll go beyond run-of-the-mill tutorials and get inside the minds of creatives as they break down their own work, sharing an in-depth look at their creative process. And with For the Kids, your little ones will get the wiggles out to some music and play along on a puppet-filled adventure.

Wistia has always believed that businesses can be more creative, whether that’s by showcasing your unique company culture, creating compelling marketing campaigns, or even by adopting a brand affinity marketing strategy. We’ve championed the value of creativity in business for years, and we know that behind every great video — and behind every great campaign — is usually a creative professional. That’s what inspired the Wistia Creative Alliance, and that’s why we’re so excited to partner with these talented folks on this program.

Working on this project was unlike anything we’ve ever done at Wistia. In a matter of three weeks, we contacted as many people as we could in our extended network, had creative brainstorm sessions, developed several sub-brands, and got new video assets delivered and shared on our website. It was a really fun initiative, and in the end, has definitely opened our eyes to new ways of developing partnerships and content for our brand. Not sure what’s up next for the Wistia Creative Alliance, but I hope this project inspires more businesses to collaborate with their local freelance network.
